The power of your journaling practice...
In the previous email we explored how you yourself are Nature expressing as Pattern. If you completed your next step, you made a new tree friend, reflected on how patterns interconnect you both, and wrote about your experience in your journal. By now, you should already have five or more entries. Good work!
In this email, I explain why your journaling practice is so effective for creating positive change in your life.
Creating a New Pattern
By starting and maintaining a daily journaling practice, you are creating a new pattern in your life (assuming you were not already journaling daily). This is a big deal, especially because most of your stable patterns were established unconsciously during childhood. Those initial patterns became the basis for all other patterns in your life, which means that most of your patterns are guided by the immense force of the unconscious mind. Read Hypnotherapy: Conscious Mind vs Unconscious Mind to refresh your knowledge of the unconscious.
This journaling practice is more than just... journaling. Yes, by tracking the patterns in your day, week, month, and so on, you will give yourself a better perspective on those patterns, which will help you change them. This is working directly on changing those patterns.
However, you can also work indirectly on changing those patterns. How?
By consciously creating a new pattern.
This new pattern can be completely unrelated to the patterns you want to change. This works because you are practicing using the mind in a new, conscious capacity to install a new pattern. Remember, most patterns were "installed" in you unconsciously—which is a pattern in itself, of patterns being installed unconsciously.
When you consciously create a new pattern, this disrupts the foundational pattern of your patterns being created unconsciously.
Patterns pattern patterns. So many patterns.
The Power of Your Journaling Practice
Consciously creating any new pattern is challenging because it takes intentional effort, and you are consciously aware of the effort it takes. It is work! This is why a journaling practice is a good choice for a new pattern:
It requires minimal work compared to other options.
It also helps you to comprehend other patterns in your life.
It will become clearer and clearer to you how powerful this journaling practice is, the longer you maintain it. You are building strength in a new way by consciously upholding this practice. Sooner than you think, journaling will be a integral part of your day, and the benefits increase exponentially. Keep going!
Your Next Step
Continue your daily end-of-day journaling practice.
Set a timer for 20 minutes.
Reflect on a time in your life after 10 years of age when you consciously created a new pattern.
Write about this reflection in your journal.
